TED PITAWANAKWAT

Theodore Justin Pitawanakwat passed away suddenly at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023. Age 71 years.

Beloved husband of Christine ‘Tina’ Pitawanakwat for 42 years. Loving father of Brenda (Angelo), Heather, Chris (Addy), Raymond (Lee Ann), James (Dawniss), Ed (Jenna), and the late Julia (Jerry). Cherished Papa of 22 and Great Papa of 3. Loving son of the late Dominic and Sarah Pitawanakwat. Dear brother of Gilbert (Gloria), Henry, Mildred, Evelyn (Wilfred), Bev, Elaine (Ron), Alphonse, Elizabeth (late Hank), and the late Victor, Bernard ‘Isaac’ (Dorothy ‘Cookie’), and Marina (husband Robert). Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Ted was known for his great sense of humour. He was fluent in Ojibway and was a respected knowledge keeper. He loved visitors and small talk, and was very family oriented, instilling good values in his family. He especially loved his grandchildren’s visits, and watching them play hockey. Ted was helpful, respectful, selfless, and loving -- he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Ted will forever be missed by all of his family and friends.

Resting at the Magnetawan First Nation Hall, where friends will be received from the afternoon on Friday, May 5th until the Funeral Mass at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Britt, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023.

Interment at Magnetawan First Nation Cemetery.

Reception to follow at Magnetawan First Nation Hall.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Parry Sound Minor Hockey, or the Holy Family Catholic Church would be appreciated (donations by cheque only, please).

Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them. Sending our sincere condolences to the Family. Keeping everyone in our prayers.

With much sadness I offer my deepest condolences to my Aunty Tina, my cousins and those little grands. My Uncle will be lovingly remembered by me, my sisters, Dad and nephews. He lived with us for a time when I was little. I felt safe in his care. He was the first to visit us after we moved out west. A kind and loving man. Generous with his time, teachings and all earthly possessions. Always welcomed a visit from the many on their travels. And even safe harbour for weary travellers. I have been both. I will remember him with love. The same love I send to you all who will gather in his memory. My heart is with you. ❤️ I take comfort knowing he will be so lovingly greeted in paradise by so many we have loved. I wish you comfort in many small ways in the days to come. A memory. A breeze. A birds song. The warmth of the sun. A visit from friends and family. A good belly laugh. Luv ya’s -C

I was greatly saddened to hear about Theodore‘s passing. I was fortunate to have coached Chris and Ray when they were young. Having chats with Theodore after the games was the highlight of my day. When hockey was done I had some great talks with him up while working in the Britt area. A great sense of humour and such a knowledgeable man. It was an honour and a privilege to know him and call him a friend. My sincere condolences to all of the family. God bless you buddy.
