It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we mourn the loss of our Husband, Dad, and Opa. Peter Henry Obdam passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, on Saturday, November 11th, 2023. Age 86 years.

Beloved husband of Mary. Loving father of Jennifer, and Peter Jr. (Bianca). Dear Opa of Kyle (Jordan), Tori (Jackson), and the late Zachary; Devan (Mily), Deanna (Evan), Peter John Jr. “Johnny”, Nick, Emily, and Abigail. Loving Great Opa of Alyzabeth, Saydee, Skyler, Tyler, Ella, and Matthew. Survived by his sister Ria, and pre-deceased by his sister Jos. Fondly remembered by Mary’s family, his nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Peter was born in 1937 in Lisse Holland. He emigrated to Canada in 1959 where he met his loving wife Mary and got married in June of 1960. Peter was a very proud Canadian. He had passion for flowers which got him into the floral industry, so in 1975 Peter and his family moved to Parry Sound. They fell in love with the beautiful area and the Georgian Bay and decided to open Obdam’s Flowers which is still going strong today. Peter was a very generous and giving man who would do anything for his family, friends and even strangers. He had a real zest for life and loved to make others laugh. One of his favourite expressions was “If you ain’t Dutch, you ain't much”. He was very well known as “Opa” not only to his loving family but also in the neighbourhood.

Peter’s family would like to thank Dr. Gibson and the nurses at the West Parry Sound Health Centre for their exceptional care and compassion.

A Graveside Service in Celebration of Peter’s Life will take place at Sylvan Acres Cemetery on Thursday, November 23rd, at 2:00 P.M.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Alzheimer Society Muskoka, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

I remember years ago when my daughter was just little and I would take her out for stroller rides. Every time I walked passed the store he always brought out two red roses. One for me and one for her. Such a sweet man. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear. Lovely obituary, and just want to add that Mr. Obdam was a strong supporter of Minor Hockey in Parry Sound. I can remember being on his sponsored teams and having him come in to the room for games and practices always in a cheerful and fatherly manner. Just such a great man and leader for us as kids.

Dear Jen, Mary and Peter Jr. , When we first read about Peter's passing we couldn't believe it! The first time we met Peter Debbie and I were working for Irene and Walter at the Three Star Restaurant on main street. From the first time we met Peter he gave Debbie a beautiful rose as he discovered that it was our 3rd anniversary the very next day. Over the years Peter never changed. He possessed the biggest heart of anyone whom I have ever met. Peter my friend you may be gone from us physically but you live on in Debbie and My memories and hearts ! Bless you

Ome (Uncle) Piet was a family legend for his energy and humour! He always brought the family together to share laughs & have fun. He knew how to tell a tale. He was free with his praise & generous. As a kid (niece) I loved our summer trips to Parry Sound where adventure centered around Piet & Riet’s house. We’re going to miss him a lot.

My heart is heavy hearing of this news. He was such a sweet man. As my mother mentioned above, when he would see me as a little girl he would always hand me a single red rose. I still remember that to this day all these years later. Sometimes it is the simplest and smallest things that can make the biggest impact. Small acts of kindness. My thoughts are with the family.
