PETER GRISDALE

Peter Jock Grisdale WW II Veteran member of the Royal Canadian Engineer Corps passed away peacefully with his daughter Deborah by his side at the West Parry Sound Health Centre. Age 94 years.

Peter was the eldest MÈtis in the Moon River MÈtis Council receiving the highest honour: The Order of MÈtis Nation Veteran Recognition. He established the Veteranís Memorial Cenotaph in Woodís Bay to honour the Veterans of the Moon River area. Peter conducted educational tours for students studying historic areas of Moon River and Blackstone Harbour while working for the Ministry of Natural Resources. He initiated the Deer Feeding Program in the Woodís Bay area. Peter was a lifetime member of the Parry Sound Anglers and Hunters Parry Sound Pistol Club Ducks Unlimited as well as being the published author of My Life on the Moon River. Peterís legacy will be forever remembered in the many MÈtis publications documentary movies and through MÈtis oral history.

Beloved husband of the late Alma Marie (LomprÈ) Grisdale. Loving father of Deborah MacDonald Timothy Grisdale the late Peter Grisdale Jr. and Diane Peacock. Dear Grandpa of Justin Peter MacDonald Connie Calis Sean Calis Denise Gallagher David Calis and Jasmine Calis. Lovingly remembered by his five great grandchildren. Loving brother of Elizabeth Estelle Emily Yvonne Jim George and the late Marie Helen Thompson Victoria Arnold and Marshall Grisdale. Fondly remembered by his nieces nephews other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Peterís life and accomplishments will be honoured in the spring at the Woodís Bay Cenotaph date to be announced.
