JOAN STONEMAN

(Gladys) Joan Stoneman passed away peacefully, at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, with her family by her side, on Thursday, April 13th, 2023. Age 90 years.

Beloved wife of the late Charlie. Dear mother of Brian and his wife Lorri of Sault Ste. Marie; Dale Stoneman of Burlington; Thomas and his wife Pam of McKellar; and Cheryl and her husband Scott Bissonette of Rosseau. Loving Grandma of Corey (Amanda), Alyssa and Kyle (Savannah); Brianna (Greg), Brendan (Jen), Zachary (Natalie), Darrell (Emily); Tyler, Maxwell and Jackson (Jaiden); and Devin and Sydney (Connor). Loving ‘GG’ of five. Dear sister of Jack, Bill, Peggy, and the late Jim Robinson. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Joan’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest pride and joy. She took great pleasure spending time with them or Facetiming with them on her iPad.

Joan had a smile that would light up a room. A social person, she was a lifetime volunteer, giving back to the community wherever she lived. Joan was an active member of the United Church in Little Rapids and Thessalon, teaching Sunday School and running Camp McDougall. A talented seamstress, knitter and crafter, Joan shared her time and knowledge as a 4H leader. When Charlie, Joan, Thomas and Cheryl moved to Turtle Lake, Joan became an active member on the Humphrey Recreation Committee, the committee that started the annual Dog Sled Mail Run so many years ago. That love of giving and interacting with others continued until a few months ago. Joan was a part of the Welcoming Committee at The Gardens of Parry Sound, where she greeted and assisted new residents to settle into their new home.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Davis and the entire palliative care team at the West Parry Sound Health Centre. Their dedication, special attention and care for Joan was incredible and greatly appreciated.

A Graveside Service and Interment will take place at the Christie Memorial Cemetery,
Orrville, Ontario, on Monday, May 8th, at 12:00 noon.

The celebration of Joan’s life will continue at the Rosseau Community Hall, where family and friends will share memories and stories.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation (Palliative Care), SickKids Foundation, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
