JANET FISHER

Janet Fisher (nee Taylor) passed away peacefully on December 30th, 2023, at Belvedere Heights, Parry Sound, surrounded by her loving family.

Jan was a woman of broad interests and talents, whose first priority was always her family. She will be sadly missed by her children John (Diana Elder), Addie Robertson, Ty (Karen Evans Fisher) and Matt (Maria Loukidelis) and close friends Faye Marwood and Joan Macfie. Janet’s beloved husband of 61 years (Dr. Edward Fisher) passed 10 years ago. She was a devoted Gramma Janet to grandchildren Kate, Jenny, Althea, Emma, Adam, Lucas and Jackson, and great grandchildren Brooke and Kenzie.

A graduate of the University of Toronto, Janet taught physical education prior to having children. Once the children were grown she took up a second career founding and running the Parry Sound campus of Georgian College, which she grew into a substantial operation offering a wide range of courses across the district, including a very successful French Immersion program at Rosseau. Janet was also very active in the community. A love of dance led her to join the local Finnish Dance group, the Sunshine Girls, and she and Ed were active participants in Scottish dancing. Generous and compassionate, she will be greatly missed by friends, family and acquaintances alike.

The family extends its gratitude to Faye Marwood who provided great comfort and support, and to the staff of The Friends, the West Parry Sound Health Centre and Belvedere Heights for their excellent care, especially her personal care workers.

Visitation will take place on Friday, January 12th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Logan Funeral Home, 81 James Street, Parry Sound (705-746-5855).

Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 13th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Anglican Church, 6 Church Street, Parry Sound.

If desired, donations to The Friends, Trinity Anglican Church (donations by cheque or e-transfer only please), or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Condolences

Not sure where to start. So many memories. We worked on Ed's campaign for the Liberal MPP. Jan commissioned Bob to paint a map of GB @ the GC campus which we did with a overhead projector @ midnight. Bob renovated the house on Gibson including the painting. They became known as Just Jan and Just Bob. I was Ed's nurse under the watchful eye of Jan. We loved and revered them fiercely. She was a force but oh such a gentle and kind one. Sincere condolences to all of her family. Will miss you beyond words Just Jan.

I came to know Jan (and Ed) at a time in my life when friends were hard to come by. I worked on Ed's campaign many years ago with Jan and many others. Back then, I was the young one - the gopher and I seem to remember I drove many of the campaign team about the riding. I remember driving Jan to Toronto for a campaign event. I had just gotten my license and I was absolutely terrified of making a mistake and having an accident. But there was Jan, riding shotgun, looking at me with so much confidence. Jan had a wonderful smile that warmed my heart every time I stepped through her door. She possessed a boundless optimism, a willingness to "take a go" at any challenge with an inner fortitude and tenacity many of us can only aspire to. As a young person, I was very grateful for friendship and guidance I was blessed to receive from this extraordinary woman. My condolences to Jan's family.

Dear John, Addie, Ty and Matt,
My sincere condolences to your families for the loss of your mom. As a young boy of 10 that lost his father, I remember how wonderfully supportive neighbours your parents were. My mother didn’t have a car in those years, and I recall fondly the many trips back and forth to the local ski hill, ski road trips, horseback riding, and even boxing lessons with your father at the high school all chauffeured by your parents. Jan and Faye were great friends of my mom in those early years on Belvedere Avenue and also later in life.

Nora and I still enjoy skiing with our children and grandchildren, attributable to the nurturing environment in which I grew up with in Parry Sound in those years. Your parents made a significant contribution to that.

Regards,

Roger (Duffy) Alexander

My sincere condolences to the Fisher family. It was my privilege to care for Ed at Belvedere and get to know Jan. Such fond memories of watching Jan & Ed dance together in Ed’s room. Such a special bond.

Sending sympathy to all the family in the passing of Jan. Happy memories of working with Jan for Georgian College course - canoeing course given by Rich, and toddler swimming courses by Pat. She was a very capable woman for sure. We also enjoyed and remember fondly working with your dad, Ed, at the high school for many years. Thinking of you all. End of a long life. Sincerely Pat and Richard Poole

To My Dear Fisher Family
What a special, kind hearted person your Mother was. I first met her at the High School maybe a little after I met your Dad who she was devoted to. I spent several hours with Mom before COVID helping her with her computer and I think it was Faye and I who witnessed her will. She loved to keep learning updating her French on Babbel and using other computer programs. Yes, Faye and her were just like sisters. You’d see one, you’d see them both. She was one loved lady and like it says in her obituary she loved her kids and grandkids to the ultimate. Janet is not alone, but home with your Dad and all your other family and friends who were called home by the Lord before her. Her and your Dad will be by your side whenever you need them, just talk to them. When your journey on this earth is over and you are called home Mom and Dad will be there to meet you. ♥

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Fisher. She was an amazing lady and very kind. She was especially kind to all of Matt's Parry Sound crew. We all loved the time spent out at Fisher's lake cabin. She will be so very missed. Take care of each other.

To Jan's family, thank you for giving me the opportunity of taking care of your Mom. She is such a blessings to me. Loving and caring. She give lots of advice in fashion, she is a real fashionista. She really love and very proud of each of her children. She love her Eduardo, her dance partner, like her motorcycle. We enjoyed our coffee and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies together. I will miss her dearly but I'm happy that she is with her sweetheart now. And I know that she is in the arms of her Saviour Jesus Christ.

Jan encouraged everyone. I remember then I lived in a log cabin outside Dunchurch. We had no running water and Jan kept her bathroom available for regular showers and hair-washing. When I came in, she'd hand me a towel and point the way. What a grand person.
