GAVIN HURLBUT

Gavin Jacques Hurlbut, aged 50, of Port Huron, MI, passed away suddenly on December 22, 2023. He is now at home in heaven with his Lord and Saviour.

Gavin was born in 1973 to Peter and Danielle in Kitchener, Ontario, being the middle child between his sisters, Lisa and Rebecca. In fourth grade, his dad taught him how to program for the Commodore PET and he was hooked on computers from that moment on. After graduating from Parry Sound High School in 1992 with high honours, he went on to study electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo. After graduation, he started his long career of computer engineering for several different companies, including Amazon and Blackberry.

In 2012, he became the stepfather of Aeron and Anya Fox, loving and caring for them as his own children.

You could often find Gavin at his computer where he touched the lives of many people. He believed everyone, animals included, deserved love and kindness. He loved to talk and debate with his friends and loved ones, and share witty jokes. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies including stamp collecting, quilting, camping, experimenting with new foods, learning about family ancestry, and playing trivia, chess, and video games. During the last year, Gavin dedicated many enjoyable hours to digitizing audio files from old cassettes of Bible studies and sermons to preserve them and make them accessible to others through Voices For Christ.

Gavin was glad to find fellowship with other Christians in Port Huron at the Community Baptist Church. He helped with the soundboard and took part in a small group Bible study. Near the end of his life he stated he was at peace about his future, and knew he was in the hands of the Lord no matter what happened. He was confident in the goodness of his Lord.

Gavin is survived by his two children Aeron and Anya Fox, his parents Peter and Danielle Hurlbut, his two sisters Lisa Hurlbut and Rebecca Kaiser, as well as his nieces and nephew: Ashley Buttineau, Kyle Buttineau, Vanessa Hurlbut, Rosemary Kaiser, and Abigail Kaiser.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 9th at Logan’s Funeral Home in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada, with visitation beginning at 12 noon, service at 1:00, and refreshments following the service.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be a private interment in Humphrey-Conger Union Cemetery in the spring.

In memory of Gavin, friends and family are invited to donate to VoicesForChrist.org or Terry Fox Foundation.
