(EDDY) EDWARD McFADGEN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eddy McFadgen (Edward Gregory McFadgen), on January 18th, 2023 at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, at the age of 90.

Beloved husband of the late Georgie McFadgen (A. Georgina McDonald) for 66 years. Eddy was a devoted father to Jo-Anne Stanton (Bill); Cathy Goodfellow (Rick); and Barb Kerr (Chuck) and was predeceased by his son Edward and his grandson, Joe Goodfellow. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Heather and Christopher Watson, Edward Goodfellow (Krissy), Matthew Kerr (Jemma Wolfe), and Shawn Kerr (Claire Henry). Also remembered by his great grandchildren, Amaya, Ryah, and Crue Goodfellow; and Alden and Rowan Wolfe Kerr. Fondly remembered by his sister, Dolores Conahan and his close friend, Nancy Loch.

Family was the most important thing to Eddy, spending time with them, and connecting by phone and FaceTime in abundance. This was evident in the strength he received through the many calls and visits he received during his last days.

Eddy began his journey in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island where he met his wife, Georgie. After they married, they moved to Ontario where he joined the OPP, starting his career as a Constable in London. He had postings in Glencoe, Bancroft, Sharbot Lake, Parry Sound, North Bay, Chatham, and North Bay again. He progressed through the ranks of the OPP finishing his 35-year career as Superintendent.

In addition to his passion for his career with the OPP, he also had a passion for the game of golf. He was a long-time member of the Parry Sound Golf & Country Club and served on the Board, including as President for many years.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The Family invites you to join them in celebrating the life of Eddy & a life well lived.

Thursday, June 1st, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Visitation at Logan's Funeral Home, 81 James St, Parry Sound.

Friday, June 2nd, 2023, at 1:00 P.M., an East Coast Celebration with Family Words of Remembrance at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 52 Church Street, Parry Sound. If you play East Coast music, bring along your fiddle or guitar.

For those who wish to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Church, it will precede the celebration at 12:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Parry Sound Health Center or Junior Golf at Parry Sound Golf & Country Club are appreciated.

This was sad news as we hadn’t heard anything through the Parry Sound grape vine about Eddy not being well. We both will miss him from our memories built with Georgie and him in Florida and on our golf course. Eddy and I spent years together on the PSGCC executive and we were always on the same page. One of my favourite memories will be when we were talking on any subject and he would say the word “well” and just the way Eddy would say it in his east coast accent meant that I was possibly wrong and I learned to rethink my answer or opinion. Eddy will be in our hearts and thoughts as he climbs those stairs to join Georgie.
Our condolences,
Sue and Ron

It was with great sadness to have learned of your father's passing. Although he lived a long and happy life, it is still a shock to learn that Eddie is gone. We will always fondly remember our times as kids when either in Leamington, Glencoe or Bancroft when our families would all get together to eat, laugh and be merry. I will always cherish these memories of dad and his pals Eddie McFadgen and Pat Power. I do recall many a late nights back in the day when they all got together. They were great pals. Although we miss them all, we can take comfort in those memories. Perhaps they are together once again, one never knows! If so, I can hear the laughter again in my mind. All the best to you and your families. You were blessed with wonderful parents. God bless

Barb … never met your dad but we talked about OPP postings and Influence with transfers on our children’s paths.
Saddened for you to lose this end of your family

-Anne Dean

Barb, Chuck and boys … we will all miss that “HOW ARE YA T”DAY” at the top of ‘pro shop hill’ … sitting aside his customized screened porch golf cart , an hour before his own tee time, just hangin’ around because he just loved seeing and chatting with people … its a Maritime gift we could use a whirl one lot more of.
Rest well Eddy, best to Georgie my friend

Sorry to hear about your Father's death. I always remember you talking about his OPP days and being posted in Bancroft and Sharbot Lake. I didn't realize he had been posted in so many communities.

-Judy O'Neil

We will be away for Ed's memorial and just wanted you to know we would have been there if possible. Ed was a great guy and we are enjoying living in your Mom and Dad's house.

My thoughts are with you during this time of celebration remembering a life well lived. I think of the two free spirits in heaven (Pat and Cliff) welcoming him with a hey Fudd! Good to see you! Love to all of you!!

-Mary Lou

My deepest sympathy to all of Ed's Family. I guess my earliest remembrances were in 1971 in Bancroft. Pat was earlier still and when he was acting Superintendent of Number 9 District OPP. Eddy seconded Pat to work on some robberies in the district. He was an honorable and honest man deeply committed to his family, his job, and the Province of Ontario. He is owed much, by so many. Ed really did live and gave his all to the citizens of this province. I wasn't aware that he'd gone on to join Georgia as I'd had health problems following an MVA and I've been more than 3 months bouncing back. Joanne, Cathy and Barb and families I shall keep Ed's memory alive and will add prayers for you and your family members. Eddy again Thank You, Sir for your service to the people of Ontario. A job well done, so Rest in Peace Retired Superintendent Edward McFadgen
