BETH BROWN

Lillian Elizabeth (Beth) Brown (nee Wing)
1935 - 2021

Beth passed away peacefully at her home in Parksville, B.C., on February 26, 2021 with her much beloved daughter, Susan, at her bedside. She is survived by her three children, Jane of Parry Sound (Howard Orr), Susan of Brampton, and Rob of Brampton, and 2 Grandchildren, Mackenzie (Toronto) and Mathew (Brampton), sister, Lois (Deedy) Spargo (Toronto).

Beth’s life took her from living on Western Island Lighthouse in Georgian Bay, Ontario to Parksville British Columbia. Her parents Arnold and Lillian Wing were the Lighthouse keepers and Beth was schooled through to grade six by Government Correspondent lessons during the spring and fall months. In winter, the family moved to Parry Sound and Beth was schooled there until it was time to return for Lighthouse duties. After graduating from high school, she entered nurses training at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia. She married Russell Dwinnell in the late 50’s and they moved to Sault Ste. Marie, where Rusty worked as an electrician and Beth worked as a nurse. Their daughter, Jane was born there.

In the early 1960’s, Beth and family moved to Pointe au Baril to help manage the family tourist business. Susan and Rob were born there. When the marriage ended in the late 1970’s, Beth moved to Parry Sound and was hired as Director of Nursing at Belvedere Heights. There, she met and married Alvin and eventually, moved to Parksville. Beth continued her nursing career until her retirement.

Beth was an avid reader and a master at crossword puzzles. She dabbled at golf and bridge, mainly to be with her friends, but her main hobby was cooking and entertaining. Their Christmas parties were legend! Their door was always open and welcoming to family and friends. Beth and Alvin made very close friends in Parksville, and these friends supported Beth when Alvin died in 2013 and they have continued to support Susan while she cared for her mom over the past 5 months. The family will always be grateful for the love and support this group has so lovingly provided. Because of COVID, there will be no celebration at this time. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in the spring. If you wish, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
