DAVID SCHWALM

After struggling for several years with a progressive neurological disease for which there is no cure, Russell David Schwalm succumbed to this heartbreaking disease on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 at West Parry Sound Health Centre. Age 73 years.

Born in Brampton on August 20th, 1944, the former English and Latin teacher, football coach and businessman lived his childhood and much of his youth in the Mildmay/Harriston area. A graduate of Huron College, David was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Baltimore Orioles, Calgary Flames and Green Bay Packers. After 15 years of teaching and coaching football in various high schools in the Toronto area, David joined Pepsi, followed by Coca Cola Foods, Grand and Toy and Sun Media. For the last 12 years of his career he returned to teaching, this time business communication skills at Georgian College. He had a varied and outstanding career, but being a grandfather was the icing on the cake of his life.

Loving husband of Lynda. Treasured father of Amy Schwalm of Toronto; Jon-David Schwalm (Danielle) of Hamilton; Luke Schwalm (Tara Black) of Toronto; and Kristina Schwalm (Carlos Bacquet) of Waterloo. Step-father to Joel Ruddy of Oakville; and Erin Ruddy (Brad Mackenzie) of Toronto. Beloved grandfather of Josh Ruddy, Madi Ruddy, Nathan Mackenzie, Cohen Mackenzie, Mackenzie Schwalm, Blake Schwalm, Suzy Schwalm, Cole Schwalm and August Bacquet. He will be sorely missed. Fondly remembered by his university buddies, many friends, and other relatives.

Special thanks to Chief Nursing Officer Deborah Randall-Wood, Doctors Wil Smith, Jonathan Witt, and Dan Honsinger for their sensitivity and compassion.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate David's remarkable life at Logan's of Parry Sound 81 James Street (705-746-5855) on Saturday November 25th between 1:00 and 3:00 P.M. Eulogies and tributes will take place at 2:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations to West Parry Sound Health Centre, or a children's charity of your choice will be appreciated.
