We are saddened to announce the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved son David, at the age of 51, while BASE jumping at Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France, on September 9th.

David, dearly loved son of Don and Maureen Buchanan, of Parry Sound. Treasured brother of Marc Buchanan (Eva), Kim Gouws (Danie), and Kerry Groulx (Fern). Cherished nephew of Barbara Browne, Marilyn Gustke (Toby), and David Brian Buchanan (Pat). Adored uncle of Adam, Danielle, Natalie, Gabrielle, Julia, David, and Andries. He will be profoundly missed by his entire family, and his many friends.

David (Bonzai, Bucky) attended Parry Sound High School and Queen’s University. He had a long and successful career with Freedom International Brokerage Co., as a bond broker. David recently retired in order to pursue his passions full time, which included BASE jumping, sky-diving, skiing, and scuba diving. David travelled extensively throughout his life, and for the past three months he was “living the dream” in Europe. David made friends wherever he went. He had an engaging smile, and a tremendous passion for whatever he was doing at the moment. He strove for excellence, and was happiest when engaged in extreme outdoor activities. He lived life large!

Friends and family will be received at St. James Centennial United Church, 24 Mary Street, Parry Sound, on Saturday, October 3rd, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 P.M. Reception after the service at the Logan Funeral Home, 81 James Street, Parry Sound (1-800-265-2218).

In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory to either Nature Conservancy of Canada, the Georgian Bay Land Trust, or Shark Savers/WildAid would be appreciated by the family.
