GERRY KNOX

With much sadness, the family of Mary Geraldine “Gerry” Knox announces her passing peacefully in Parry Sound, on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016, in her 95th year.

Pre-deceased by her husband Leo Joseph Knox, sister Winnifred Marr (Ed), brother Fr. Donal O’Gorman, brother John “Bill” O’Gorman, and daughter Elaine Knox (Robert Culbertson). Survived by her sisters Isobel McCarron (Ray), Jean Kallmeyer (the late Bruce), brother David O’Gorman (Catherine), children Donal (Linnea), Peter (Janis), Patricia Eaton (Ken), Terry (Deborah) and Paul. Grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of 14. Gerry was born on May 15, 1921 in Ottawa, to parents George O’Gorman and Ethel Lanthier. Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A dedicated homemaker to six children and a cancer survivor, as a child Gerry enjoyed her many years on Deloraine Avenue in Toronto as the big sister to her siblings. Gerry married Leo Joseph Knox on July 14, 1945 and thoroughly enjoyed her career as the bookkeeper for Leo’s business “Avenue Maintenance” as well as her time spent with Crown Life in the latter part of her working career. Gerry and Leo retired to Parry Sound in 1986 and spent the winters in Clearwater Florida, where Leo could be close to his beloved Blue Jays. After Leo’s passing in 1992, Gerry left Florida behind, but continued to stay at their home in Parry Sound where she hosted many Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas dinners. She entertained her family and friends with open arms whenever they dropped by. Those who knew Gerry would undoubtedly say she was the kindest, most thoughtful person they had ever met. Quick to laugh, eager to lend a hand, opinions of others held close, she was always there when you needed her. She touched many lives with her love, kindness, generosity and hospitality. Mom, you were an amazing mother. You will be greatly missed. Thanks for instilling in your children and all who crossed your path, your unshakeable qualities of love, compassion and devotion to family. We are all better people for having known you.

Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, and the many support workers of the Community Care Access Centre, and Victorian Order of Nurses.
